Unemployment fund The government has announced that it has started a process whereby it will consult different sections of society in an effort to determine the best way to deal with the economic problems that the nation is facing. I do not know how long this process will take, or what the result will be, but I know that at the present time many persons in our community have lost their jobs and would welcome any financial assistance that they can get. In an effort to assist them I have opened an account at a bank with five hundred dollars and I intend to put one hundred dollars into the account every week. If two hundred of us should contribute one hundred dollars every week to this fund, and if others should contribute fifty or twenty or even ten dollars every week to this fund, we could offer assistance to many of our less fortunate fellow constituents. I believe in transparency therefore I have asked the bank if it would be possible to have all the information about the fund available on line. I have not received a response as yet but that is what I would like. We would also have to decide who should receive assistance how much they should receive and who should disburse the funds. We would have to decide if the beneficiary should receive cash or coupons. There are many other things that would have to be taken into consideration but because of the foolishness of the Honourable Prime Minister we are unable to communicate with each other. Since last year I purchased a fm transmitter with a range of six miles to facilitate communication between residents in our community. Our representative Hon. Chanlah Codrington asked the Hon, Prime Minister for a license to operate the station. The Prime Minister told him to wait until after the general elections. To our surprise and dismay after the elections the Prime Minister told Mr. Codrington that because he had a ministry, giving us a license to operate a community radio station would create a conflict of interest. I do not see any difference between the people of All Saints West owning a radio station and the UPP owning a radio station except that whereas they use their station to verbally abuse members of the ALP we would use our station to uplift our community.
